Reinsurance Salary Survey – 13 companies, C-level, Underlying Data Available

(edited to add: this post is now reachable from www.ReinsuranceSalarySurvey.com)

So I spent a little time and looked at the SEC filings for 13 companies, to produce a C-level property & casualty reinsurance compensation survey for US-traded companies. Here is the underlying data, publicly available on Google Spreadsheets.

(Primary P&C, Life, & Health insurance companies salary surveys may be found at InsuranceSalarySurveys.com.)

These companies were included: Everest Re, Montpelier Re, Transatlantic Re, PartnerRe, Axis Capital, Arch Capital, Platinum Underwriters, Alterra Capital, Validus, XL, White Mountains, RenaissanceRe and Endurance Specialty. Some of the companies were included for a variety of business reasons. You might disagree. If you do, you’re able to adjust to your needs.

“Compensation” in this context is the total amount from the “Summary Compensation Table”, which includes salary, bonus, share awards, option awards, non-equity incentive plan compensation, change in pension value, and whatever else they decide to jam into that table.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO): 25th percentile = $4.6 million ; Median = $6.6 million ; 75th percentile = $7.6 million

Chairman: 25th = $3.3m ; Median = $3.9m ; 75th = $5.4m

Chief Operating Officer (COO): 25th = $2.6m ; Median = $3.3m ; 75th = $4.0m

President: 25th = $4.7m ; Median = $7.2m ; 75th = $7.7m

Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO): 25th = $2.4m ; Median = $2.9m ; 75th = $3.7m

Chief Financial Officer (CFO): 25th = $1.9m ; Median = $2.6m ; 75th = $3.6m

If someone held more than one slot, I included them in all applicable slots. Enjoy!
